Let's use Halloween and Christmas to share the name of Jesus!
This form is to help us know who is available for four different events.
If you tick everything you are willing to do then it'll help us start conversations and start forming teams.
You won't be locked in and you are welcome to change your mind later on, but getting some indication early is really helpful for organising ahead of time.
We don't celebrate Halloween in the grotescue way our culture does, but it is a great opportunity to walk the streets and hand out lollies and info about church and Jesus (to adults). It's a great way to be light in a dark place. We've been doing this since 2020.
We usually gather at someone's home around 5pm.
Then we fill 200 bags with lollies and info about church and Jesus.
Around 6pm we start handing them out around the suburb.
By 7pm we are all back at the base for a BBQ dinner and to share stories.
This year it falls on a Friday evening. which is a pretty good time so it should work well for the community.
It is a really easy thing to do, lots of fun and the community has always welcomed it.
If you've never done anything like this before then don't fear because we'll team you up with others.
At the start of December we'll hold a carol service in our normal Sunday service time. We'll turn the lights off and decorate the room so it is all sparkly.
We'll sing songs and tell the story of God coming into the world He made.
It'll be an easy service to invite a friend to.
For the last two years we got to be part of the City of Cockburn's huge 7000-person Christmas event. Each year we were the only Christian content at the whole thing, so it was a great opportunity and I think we keep on getting better at it.
Some of us dress up as Roman soldiers, magi, shepherds, etc. Then as people walk along a path we give them a 'Bethlehem Passport' which directs them through a few stations with our actors where they hear the Christmas story. Eventually they meet Mary and the baby in the manger. Through it all we get to tell them about who Jesus is and what he came to earth to do.
The final station is inside a huge stable which we decorate with animals, actors, a choir, and a baby in a manger. Even though the stable is huge we had people lining up out the door to meet Mary and the baby last year.
We've interacted with about 2000 people through it over the two years.
Sadly the City of Cockburn are not repeating the event this year. However, Lakeside Baptist Church are putting on a large event that coincides with a large Basketball event and night markets (that apparently draws large crowds). They've asked if we can help them add some gospel content.
This would be a great chance to support another church (and say thanks for the costumes they have been lending us for years)!
We need actors who take a speaking role, actors who just dress up, and also lots of other people to work behind the scenes. See the list of roles below.
It'll be on a Friday afternoon but we will probably set most of it up days in advance.
Every year the Cockburn Youth Centre shuts down over Christmas so we can't rent their building. We use it as a chance to visit other churches on Christmas Day.
This year Yangebup Baptist have asked if we can run a Christmas Day service for them.
They don't have a pastor right now and this would be a great way to do something for another church.
